Water Efficiency

California Drought Crisis - What This Means For YouDocumentIn response to the ongoing drought in California, the State has imposed mandatory restrictions on outdoor landscape irrigation.  The City of Adelanto is implementing a staggered and reduced outdoor landscape watering schedule.

Should you have any questions or concerns regarding this watering schedule, please feel free to contact City Hall at 760-246-2300, ext. 3045.
Mandatory Outdoor Landscape Watering Schedule
  • Even address numbers water on Tuesday and Thursday  0, 2, 4, 6, or 8.
  • If your property address ends in an even number, customers may only water their outdoor landscape on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
  • Odd address numbers water on Wednesday and Friday 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9.
  • If your property address ends in an odd number, customers may only water their outdoor landscape on Wednesdays and Fridays.
  • There will be no outdoor landscape watering on Mondays and weekends.
Water Efficiency TipsWatering the grass at night or early morning is better for the grass and you avoid burning it and evaporation from the sun. If you water your grass in the mid-day with high heat and sun exposure, it can actually burn your grass. Also, the evaporation of water into the air is higher. The water also absorbs into the ground better and waters the grass more evenly when there is not full sun.

An alternative is the Cash for Grass Program. View the Cash for Grass - Before and After (PDF).
What This Means for Customers
  • All fountains or other water features is prohibited, unless the fountain has a re-circulating system
  • Pools/spas must be covered when not in use with evaporation resistant covers
  • Vehicles may be hand washed with a bucket and rinsed with a leak-free hose equipped with a shut off nozzle
  • Washing down solid surfaces such as driveways, sidewalks, or patios is prohibited
  • Water waste is prohibited. Water waste is defined as “unreasonable or non-beneficial use of water for any purpose which allows flooding or run off"
ConserveWater efficiency is the most cost-effective and environmentally sound way to reduce our demand for water. Using less water also puts less pressure on our sewage treatment facilities.

Saving water also saves energy. 6.5% of the energy used in the state of California is for pumping and treating water. For your personal energy bill, using less hot water saves on water heating.
